The Constitutional Court is considering the issue of the term of office of President Sadyr Japarov

This initiative comes from the president himself

Today, a discussion is taking place in the Constitutional Court regarding the term of office of President Sadyr Japarov, as reported by Deputy Aliyev on his Facebook page.

He noted that he intends to consider this issue exclusively in a legal context, avoiding political aspects, and relying solely on the norms of legislation.

According to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on the Constitution dated May 5, 2021 (Section Five, Article 3), a president elected in 2021 for a term of 6 years exercises his powers in accordance with the Constitution, and this term is considered the first term of his election. Aliyev expressed hope that the Constitutional Court will be guided by the letter of the law, rather than political sentiments.

It should be noted that the question of the terms of presidential powers of Japarov has become actively discussed in society after a letter related to close associates of Deputy Tashiev appeared in the media. This document raised the question of how to interpret the first term of the president within the framework of the current Constitution: whether to consider Japarov's term, elected in 2021, as a complete first term.

This publication has caused significant public resonance among parliamentarians, experts, and citizens, as the correct interpretation has direct implications for the conduct of the next presidential elections. In response to the arising questions, President Sadyr Japarov sent an official appeal to the Constitutional Court of the Kyrgyz Republic, requesting clarification of the situation in a legal context. This became the basis for the current consideration of the issue in the Constitutional Court.
