In this document, signed by 75 individuals, the necessity of reviewing the elections is stated, as the current president was elected in 2021 under the previous Constitution. The updates that occurred in April 2021 led to legal disputes regarding the duration of the presidential term.
The signatories point out the uncertainty that arose after the adoption of the new Constitution concerning the terms of office of the president elected before its entry into force. The appeal emphasizes that two opinions have formed among lawyers and politicians:
- one group believes that early elections are the only correct solution,
- the other insists on waiting for the end of the six-year term.
The appeal highlights that holding elections in the near future could prevent various misunderstandings, disputes in society, and appeals to the Constitutional Court.
The authors of the letter also note the achievements of the current government, such as resolving issues at state borders, efforts to combat corruption, strengthening defense capabilities, and improving the social sphere. However, they also highlight pressing problems: the growing national debt, rising prices, and the migration of the indigenous population.
So far, the president's administration has not commented on the issue of holding early elections.
