The Ministry of Health updates the rules for protecting the country from quarantine infections. Why is this necessary?
It is important to note that this document was presented for public discussion.
Sydygaliev reported that the COVID-19 pandemic, which erupted in 2020, became a catalyst for changes regarding the strengthening of control at quarantine points. He noted that the current epidemiological situation, the emergence of new diseases, including the coronavirus, and the potential threat of using pathogens for terrorist purposes require comprehensive interaction among various services for the sanitary protection of the republic. "This concerns not only the Ministry of Health but all services," he added.
According to him, the pandemic revealed shortcomings in the existing system, leading to the necessity of preparing both the ministry and the entire population for possible emergencies. The Deputy Minister also mentioned that measures to control the Nipah virus at entry points in airports and road borders have been strengthened to detect possible infections. "We have devices that allow for remote body temperature measurement. Thanks to the assistance of donors and the state, quarantine points have been updated and equipped with the necessary equipment. We plan to conduct training activities for representatives of all ministries working at entry points," Sydygaliev clarified.
He added that new, yet-to-be-studied infections require special attention. "Life goes on, medicine is evolving. It is necessary to constantly update documents," he emphasized.
Sydygaliev also reminded about the existing algorithms of actions for aircraft crews and train conductors in case of detecting an infectious disease among passengers. "For example, if a flight attendant on a plane from India discovers a sick passenger, they must report it to the airport in Bishkek. There is a sanitary-quarantine point at the airport with two isolation rooms for such cases. Then, an ambulance and clinicians are called. The Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital has boxed rooms for the temporary isolation of the patient until a diagnosis is established," explained the Deputy Minister.
Kubanychbek Bekturdiyev added that infections can enter the country through various means, including goods and animals, but the greatest threat comes from people.
"Considering the cancellation of visa regimes in a number of countries, tourist flows and pilgrimages create risks. We are seriously concerned that a new infection similar to COVID-19 may come to our country. When there was an outbreak of the Nipah virus in India in early January, we were very worried about the possible importation of this disease. Currently, the world is facing a pandemic of influenza and cholera, and we have not yet dealt with them, and now the coronavirus infection is added. Moreover, new diseases are emerging. In our republic, we have started to record cases of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and borreliosis, which is related to global warming. We have many challenges," noted Bekturdiyev.
According to him, the document includes a comprehensive plan aimed at preparing for possible infections and carrying out anti-epidemic measures.
