In Bishkek, pedestrians face difficulties during rain. Scooters and electric scooters create dangerous situations, and sidewalks, which are not always comfortable even without rain, become real traps in such weather.
At first glance, the sidewalks appear quite even and suitable for walking, but as soon as it starts to rain, puddles form on the surface.
In some areas of the city, storm drains are absent, and pedestrians have to be agile to jump over puddles. Moreover, the need for quality footwear becomes even more relevant, as after walking through "wet routes," one can not only soak their feet but also risk their health.
For example, on Moscow Street, at the intersection with Tynystanova, puddles form regularly, although they can be bypassed along the edges. Moving further towards Shopokova Street, the situation does not change.
Interestingly, in areas with cobblestones, there are almost no puddles — the water drains between the stones, while on the recently laid asphalt, it collects in significant amounts.
In 2025, sidewalks were repaired on 28 streets, totaling 25 kilometers, yet puddles continue to form on the new surfaces. Perhaps the problem lies in the incorrect slope or uneven surface.
The most challenging situation is observed in the area of the overpasses, known to locals as "under the bridge," at the intersection of Baytik Batyr and Leo Tolstoy streets. During rain, extensive puddles form there, and pedestrians often have to climb onto Leo Tolstoy Street or walk through the water, risking ruining their shoes.
Local residents note that this problem arises year after year, especially in rainy weather. Some pedestrians skillfully jump over puddles, while others wonder: when will the city's infrastructure truly become convenient and safe for pedestrians?
