Erkimbekov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is a secular state.
“Representatives of religious organizations participated in the development of unified standards for school uniforms. However, headgear is not mentioned in the resolution. There are clear restrictions regarding skirts for girls,” he noted.
When asked about the possibility of female students wearing headscarves during classes, Erkimbekov did not provide a clear answer.
According to this resolution, skirts can be straight, wide, or tapered, as well as pleated or with folds. The minimum length of a skirt or dress must be 5 centimeters below the knee, and the maximum length is to the middle of the calf.
Furthermore, Erkimbekov did not comment on the situation regarding the potential exclusion from school of students who do not meet the appearance requirements.
“If students exceed the established norms, the administration of the educational institution takes appropriate measures,” he added.
Earlier, deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed the opinion that strict uniforms and suits in schools should be abolished.
However, the Ministry of Education emphasized that a classic style of clothing helps to create discipline and reduce social differences among students.
For boys, shirts, vests, trousers, and jackets in solid colors such as black, gray, dark blue, and burgundy are provided. Girls are offered blouses, vests, skirts, trousers, dresses, aprons, and jackets, which can be either solid or checkered. Light shades of shirts are allowed.
According to the department, forcing low-income families to purchase uniforms of a specific style is illegal — the option of “light top, dark bottom” is permitted.
