National Statistics Committee Data: Women in Kyrgyzstan Live About Nine Years Longer Than Men
As of early 2026, the population of Kyrgyzstan reached 7.4 million people, among which there is a slight predominance of women, their share exceeding 50%. The average age of women in the country is 30 years, while for men it is 28 years.
The expected life expectancy for women in 2024 was 77 years, while for men this figure is 68 years. One of the factors contributing to such a significant gap is the higher mortality rate among men, which is 1.6 times greater than that of women.
In 2024, more than 45 thousand women registered for marriage, of which 87% were doing so for the first time. Most of those entering their first marriage are aged between 18 and 29 years. The average age for first marriage registration is 24 years, while for remarriage it is 35 years.
The average woman in Kyrgyzstan gives birth to about three children. Despite a slight decline in birth rates, from 158 thousand newborns in 2020 to 140 thousand in 2024, the birth rate remains above the level of simple population reproduction.
In the economic sphere, the employment rate of women of working age is 48.7%. The most common areas of their employment include education, healthcare, social services, hospitality, and trade.
Despite this, a gender pay gap persists in the country. According to a survey conducted in 2025, women earn an average of 65.7% of men's salaries.
In the educational sector, women make up the majority. By the beginning of the 2024/25 academic year, about 87% of teachers in schools are women. Among students, girls also prevail: their share in secondary vocational institutions is over 58%, and in universities, it is approximately 55%.
In addition to professional activities, women spend a significant amount of time on household chores. On average, they dedicate 4 hours and 40 minutes a day to this, while for men this figure is less than one hour. In rural areas, women engage in household duties for about five hours daily, while in cities, it is around four hours.
Women allocate approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes per week for active leisure.
