The endemic tulip of Kyrgyzstan, the upward tulip (Tulipa anadroma Botschanz.), has reached the second stage of an international competition aimed at protecting rare and endangered plant and animal species.
The competition is organized by the Indianapolis Zoo in the USA.
In the first round, which took place from March 16 to 19, our tulip gathered enough votes to continue to the next stage.
According to the organizers, about 250,000 people participated in the voting. The competition features 64 different species, and experts note that such activity helps raise awareness about the tulip and Kyrgyzstan among many people around the world.
The editorial team of VB.KG expresses gratitude to all readers who supported the voting. It is only thanks to your activity that the Kyrgyz tulip was able to advance to the second round and gain recognition on the international stage.
The second stage started on March 20 and will last until March 23, 2026. At this stage, voting can be done once every 24 hours. You can vote for the tulip on the 11th page of the official website.
We urge readers to continue voting and share information about the competition with friends and colleagues to increase the chances of this rare species reaching the finals.
The next stages will take place from March 24 to 26 and from March 27 to 29, with the super final scheduled for the period from March 30 to April 3, 2026.
In case of victory, the project organizers will provide financial support for programs aimed at protecting this species.
The upward tulip is endangered, with the main threats being the collection of flowers by both tourists and locals, livestock grazing, as well as the digging up and sale of bulbs.
Voting is an important step in drawing the world's attention to the conservation of Kyrgyzstan's unique natural heritage.
