In Karakol, the construction of a modern wastewater treatment plant is actively underway, which is expected to start operating in August 2026. The project is supported by the Asian Development Bank, as reported by the press service of the city administration. The main goal of this project is to improve the environmental situation in the region, enhance the quality of urban infrastructure, and ensure safe conditions for local residents.

The project includes two phases. The first phase, which will be completed in 2026, will provide the plant with a capacity of 12,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, allowing it to serve approximately 75,000 people. The second phase, scheduled for 2027, will increase this capacity to 24,000 cubic meters, enabling up to 150,000 residents to be connected to the sewage system.

Currently, the main construction works have been completed: key structures such as aeration tanks, sedimentation tanks, and technical buildings have been erected, as well as an administrative building with a laboratory. In the near future, work on engineering networks and landscaping of the adjacent territory is planned to be completed. Commissioning works are scheduled for May.

It should be noted that currently only 35-40% of the city's facilities are connected to the centralized sewage system. After the construction is completed, the municipal enterprise "Gorvodokanal" will begin the phased connection of the remaining residents.

In addition, 12.7 kilometers of new sewage networks have already been laid in Karakol, which will allow new areas to be connected to modern treatment systems.
