The Ministry of Education has announced that in the new academic year, registration will only be conducted for the first grade. The practice of admitting seven-year-old children to the second grade, which was used last year, has been canceled.
Criteria for Admission to the First Grade
In the 2026/27 academic year, children eligible for admission to the first grade will be:- born between January 1 and December 31, 2019;
- as well as children born between January 1 and December 31, 2020.
Registration Stages
Registration will be carried out in two stages based on a territorial principle.- The first stage will begin on April 1 at 10:00 and will be available only for children registered at the residence of one of the parents or legal representatives in the microdistrict of the corresponding school.
- The second stage will start on June 1 at 10:00 and will allow registration for children regardless of the permanent registration of their parents, provided there are available places in the class.
Number of Places in Classes
The number of places in the first grades will be calculated automatically based on the number of students in the fourth grades from the previous year.The maximum capacity of one class is 42 students.
- If there were 25-41 students in the fourth grades, the quota will be determined by the actual number;
- if there are fewer than 25, the school must open a class with a minimum of 25 places.
Required Documents
During the electronic registration process, medical documents do not need to be uploaded. However, after enrollment, parents are required to provide the school with:- the original medical certificate of health status;
- a vaccination certificate.
What Parents Need to Know
If children of preschool age do not appear in the parent's personal account, they need to be added manually or the parent should contact the Ministry of Education KR call center.If a legal representative is registering a child, they must upload a document confirming guardianship or custody. It is important to remember that they can register no more than two children in the electronic registration system.
Parents or guardians have the right to cancel a submitted application no more than three times. After the third cancellation, the system blocks the possibility of further changes.
Who is Subject to Mandatory Admission to School
There are exceptional cases when a child has the right to be admitted to school out of turn or beyond the established quota.- Teachers have priority admission rights for their children in the educational organization where they work.
- If one of the twins or children in a triplet/quartet has already been admitted to the first grade, the other children are also subject to mandatory admission to the same school, which automatically increases the first grade quota.
What to Do if Registration Deadlines are Missed?
If parents fail to register their child within the established deadlines, the issue of admission will be resolved by the Commission for Children's Affairs based on a written appeal.When a family moves during the academic year, they can choose a school with available places, regardless of their place of residence. Registration will take place through the AIS "Kündölük".
Prohibition on Testing
In municipal and state schools, conducting exams, tests, or interviews for admission to the first grade is prohibited by law.Private schools may choose to participate in the electronic registration process for children entering the first grade at their discretion.
