The problem of anemia in children, especially at an early age, is becoming increasingly relevant. This was reported on "Birinchi Radio" by pediatrician from the City Children's Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medical Care, Jazgul Muratalieva.

According to her, anemia is characterized by a decrease in hemoglobin and red blood cells in the blood, and the iron-deficiency form of this disease arises due to a lack of iron in the body.

“One of the main causes of anemia in infants is rapid growth and insufficient intake of iron. In the first six months of life, children receive the necessary amount of this element through breast milk, but after that, the body's needs increase. If iron intake from food is not ensured after six months, this can lead to iron-deficiency anemia,” she noted.

Moreover, the health status of the mother during pregnancy can also affect the iron levels in the newborn. If the future mother suffered from anemia and did not receive proper treatment, this can lead to iron deficiency in the child. Therefore, it is very important to monitor one's health, undergo examinations, and engage in anemia prevention.

The first examination of children for anemia is conducted at six months of age. For this, a complete blood count is taken, which is then repeated at one year, two years, before the start of school, and during puberty.
If anemia is detected in a child, the pediatrician may recommend taking special supplements and properly introducing complementary foods starting at six months. This includes vegetables, meat (both red and white), and other iron-rich foods. There are many options for baby food available on the market. If necessary, children are prescribed iron supplements, both in therapeutic and preventive doses,” added Jazgul Muratalieva.

Among the symptoms of anemia in children, one can highlight pallor and dryness of the skin, general weakness, quick fatigue, frequent colds, dizziness, as well as growth delays. Children may also exhibit changes in hair and nail condition, as well as unusual preferences for food and smells, such as a desire to eat chalk or clay, or an attachment to the smell of gasoline or varnish.

The specialist emphasized the close connection between anemia and reduced immunity, which can create a vicious cycle. Therefore, it is important to consult a doctor in a timely manner and undergo the necessary examinations.

The main preventive measures against anemia include a balanced diet, a sleep regimen, regular walks, and attentive care from parents regarding their children's health.
