A bill has been submitted to the State Duma that requires migrants to undergo a medical examination within 30 days of their arrival in Russia. This was reported by "Kommersant," citing a document published in the electronic database of the lower house of parliament.

The initiators of this bill are deputies led by the Vice-Speaker of the State Duma Irina Yarovaya and the heads of party factions. The proposed changes concern the federal law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation." According to current regulations, migrants must undergo a medical examination within 90 days of entry. This is necessary to detect dangerous infectious diseases, HIV, and drug addiction. It is also proposed to introduce a similar examination annually for those who stay in the country for more than 30 days. Migrants will have to cover the costs of visiting a doctor themselves.

If an infection, HIV, or drug addiction is detected during the examination, medical institutions are required to notify the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Rospotrebnadzor, which will decide on the deportation of the migrant.

Migrants who evade medical examinations may also face deportation from the country. It is proposed to increase fines for refusing the procedure to 25,000-50,000 rubles, which is 12 times higher than the current penalties. Individuals using fake medical certificates could be sentenced to imprisonment for up to four years, as well as fined between 500,000 and 1 million rubles.
