In St. Petersburg, police officers detained two men suspected of organizing the illegal legalization of about 3,000 migrants. This information was announced by Irina Volk, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As Volk reported on her Telegram channel, the operation involved employees from the Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. The general director of several commercial organizations and a citizen of one of the Central Asian countries, suspected of organizing illegal migration, were detained.

According to Volk, the foreign citizen found among his compatriots those wishing to legalize their stay in Russia and offered them services for registration in hostels in the Nevsky District for amounts ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 rubles. Obtaining a work patent cost 28,000 to 34,000 rubles. However, the migrants did not actually reside in the specified hostels but worked in delivery, public catering, taxi services, and on construction sites. According to available information, this way, about 3,000 foreigners were able to legalize their status.

A criminal case has already been initiated. During searches, mobile phones, seals, forms, and documents of evidential value were seized. One of the detainees has been arrested, while the other is under house arrest. There is also a consideration of holding accountable the migrants who used the services of the offenders.
