In Russia, migrants with debts may not have their work permits extended: a new initiative
In Russia, a draft law is being discussed that could lead to the refusal to extend work permits for migrants with debts. Deputies plan to submit an initiative concerning foreigners who do not comply with court decisions, including debt obligations, to the State Duma after the New Year holidays. This was reported by Yaroslav Nilov, chairman of the committee on labor, social policy, and veterans' affairs.

Nilov noted: “It is important to create a mechanism whereby if a migrant is a persistent non-payer and has a court decision regarding a debt, this may serve as grounds for refusing to obtain or extend a permit.” According to him, the draft law has already been sent to the government and will be presented at the spring session of the State Duma.

In Nilov's opinion, the initiative will serve as an additional incentive for migrants to pay off their debts.

He also previously mentioned that in the proposed amendments, any persistent non-compliance with a court decision will be grounds for the annulment of a work permit.
