Several reasons for this decision have been voiced
The Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration of Kyrgyzstan has initiated a draft law that proposes to extend the New Year holidays in 2026 until January 12. This draft law has already been presented for public discussion.
As part of this proposal, the working days of January 8 and 9 are planned to be moved to weekends that fall on February 7 and April 25, 2026.
According to the Labor Code, this year citizens will have to rest from January 1 to January 7. The reasons for extending the holidays include an increase in cases of ARVI and influenza, the need for family rest for schoolchildren, the development of winter tourism, and issues with electricity supply.
