According to data presented by the chairman of the city committee for labor and employment, Vasily Ponidelko, the number of labor migrants in St. Petersburg decreased by 10% in 2025, amounting to 293 thousand people. Previously, in 2024, this number reached 327 thousand.

Ponidelko reported that an assessment of the migration flow, including both internal and foreign migrants, was conducted in collaboration with the Higher School of Economics, including those from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries. According to him, the total reduction in the migration flow amounted to 34 thousand people, which corresponds to approximately 10%.

The main countries from which labor migrants come to St. Petersburg remain Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. However, this year there is an overall decrease in the number of vacancies, especially in sectors such as construction and light industry.

At present, foreign workers have the opportunity to be employed in those sectors where there is still high demand for labor.
