The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, has approved a new law that expands opportunities for employers in labor relations with foreign workers.
According to the new regulation, employers will be able to terminate contracts with migrants if the established regional limit on jobs is exceeded. This law amends Article 327.6 of the Labor Code of Russia and will come into effect on March 1, 2026.

Deputies from the "New People" party proposed this initiative to the State Duma, claiming that it will help reduce the risks of lawsuits from dismissed foreign workers.

Since 2014, regions of Russia have had the right to set annual limits on the number of foreign workers attracted. If these limits are exceeded, enterprises are required to reduce the number of migrants, otherwise they face fines: legal entities may be fined from 800,000 to 1 million rubles or have their activities suspended for up to two weeks.
