Kamila Célie sustained a facial injury from a competitor's skate, which struck her above the left eye. The athlete was urgently removed from the ice on a stretcher. She received first aid at the arena and was then taken to the hospital for further examination.
This incident occurred during the semifinal race, which also included Italian Arianna Fontana and American Kristen Santos-Griswold. The judges disqualified Santos-Griswold for an illegal overtake that caused the collision.
Despite the incident, Fontana managed to secure second place in the semifinal and advanced to the final. Later, representatives from Poland reported that Célie's eye was not injured; however, this incident once again raised concerns about the high risk of injury in short track speed skating.
