From April 6 to 12 of this year, the Asian Championship in wrestling will take place in Bishkek at the "Jashtyk" arena. The competition program includes Greco-Roman wrestling from April 6 to 8, freestyle wrestling on April 9-10, and women's wrestling on April 11-12. In anticipation of this significant event, the "Kabar" agency spoke with Melis Tobokelov, the director of the Directorate for Olympic Sports.

— Melis Sakayevich, tell us about the current preparations for the Asian Championship in Kyrgyzstan?

— The preparations for the championship are progressing actively. We have created an organizing committee responsible for all aspects—from the sports component to logistics, accreditation, security, and media coordination. All actions are being carried out according to the established schedule and the requirements of the International Wrestling Federation (UWW).

— The "Jashtyk" arena has been chosen for the tournament. Does it meet international standards?

— Certainly, the "Jashtyk" arena meets all UWW requirements. We will ensure the proper placement of wrestling mats, necessary lighting, media and TV infrastructure, as well as comfortable warm-up rooms and areas for weigh-ins, call rooms, and other conditions that comply with international standards.

— How many countries and athletes are expected at the championship? How is the accommodation for guests organized?

— We expect participation from over 20 countries and hundreds of athletes. Hotels of 3-4 star level have been prepared for the delegations, and we will provide a full package of services—transportation, meals, and logistics for the participants. We are making efforts for a systematic approach to organizing the reception of guests.

— How many wrestlers will represent Kyrgyzstan, and what criteria were used to form the national team?

— The national team was formed based on the results of the Kyrgyzstan Championship, which took place at the beginning of the year, as well as the outcomes of international ranking tournaments. In cases where disputes arose, additional qualifying matches were held to determine the winners.

Composition of the national team:

freestyle wrestling — 10 wrestlers;

Greco-Roman wrestling — 10 wrestlers;

women's wrestling — 9 wrestlers.

Thus, at the Asian Championship, Kyrgyzstan will be represented by the strongest and most experienced athletes in each weight category.
