According to Reuters, DOGE no longer exists, as stated by Chief Personnel Officer Scott Cooper in response to a question about the department's status. He clarified that the structure is no longer "centralized."

The functions of DOGE have been transferred to the personnel department, which is responsible for human resources issues in the federal government. Two key DOGE employees are now working at the National Design Studio, established at Trump's direction in August, tasked with updating government websites.

This statement marks the first official comment from the Trump administration regarding the closure of DOGE, although since the summer, the president's team has hinted that the department was effectively not functioning. It is worth noting that at the beginning of his term, Trump signed an order to continue the operation of DOGE until July 2026.

The department was created after Donald Trump took office on January 20 of this year. It was envisioned as an entity meant to optimize spending and increase the efficiency of the U.S. government. Elon Musk, who headed DOGE, actively supported it on his social media, calling it a "chainsaw for bureaucracy."

The department's work concluded with the dismissal of hundreds of civil servants and the cancellation of subscriptions to liberal media outlets such as Politico, Associated Press, and The New York Times. DOGE claimed it had managed to reduce government spending by tens of billions of dollars; however, external financial experts were unable to confirm this due to a lack of detailed reporting on the department's activities.
