The President of Kazakhstan spoke at a forum in Turkmenistan
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participated in an international forum that marked significant events: the International Year of Peace and Trust and three decades of Turkmenistan's neutrality.
At the beginning of his speech, Tokayev congratulated Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the national leader of Turkmenistan, and his son Serdar on the anniversary of neutrality. He noted that Turkmenistan's foreign policy significantly contributes to stability and development in Eurasia. In his opinion, the ideas discussed at the forum should emphasize the importance of neutrality in modern conditions.
Tokayev also emphasized that the policy of neutrality harmoniously fits into the cultural and spiritual traditions of the Turkmen people.
“As the founder of Turkmen classical literature, the great thinker Makhtumkuli Fragi said: ‘where there is peace – there is the strength of the state, where there is justice – there is trust.’ These ideas represent a unique concept, the relevance of which in modern international conditions is beyond doubt,” Tokayev stated.
Kazakhstan expressed support for Ashgabat's initiative to proclaim the International Year of Peace and Trust, reflecting the fundamental principles of the country's foreign policy strategy.
Furthermore, Tokayev emphasized the need for political will from major powers to call on UN member states to dialogue.
“It has now become clear that a just and sustainable peace is only possible if the ideas of inevitable global confrontation and nuclear war are rejected. Instead of militaristic rhetoric, there should come an understanding of peace, trust, and cooperation. In this context, Kazakhstan welcomes the renewal of the negotiation process on the Ukrainian conflict,” Tokayev added.
