Heroes of Panfilov

The decisive moment in the defeat of the advancing fascist occupiers was the Battle of Moscow, where one of the first to engage in combat was the 316th Rifle Division, commanded by the military commissar of the Kyrgyz Republic, Major General I. V. Panfilov from Frunze. The division was formed by the governments of two republics: Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan from conscripted soldiers and was multinational in its composition.
The soldiers of this division participated in the battles near Moscow in November 1941 and demonstrated examples of heroism, "Courage in Defense of the Fatherland." A record from the award sheet of the Hero of the Soviet Union I. V. Panfilov, signed by the commander of the Western Front troops, Army General G. K. Zhukov on April 12, 1942, states: "Major General I. V. Panfilov has commanded the 316th Rifle Division since its formation (July 14, 1941). He devoted much strength and energy to the formation, training, and preparation of the units for combat operations. While participating on the Western Front, he constantly personally led the division.
In the fight against the German invaders on the approaches to Moscow, the division engaged in fierce battles against enemy forces that outnumbered them four to one. For a month, the division's units not only held their positions but also, through rapid counterattacks, defeated the 2nd Tank, 29th Motorized, 11th, and 110th Infantry Divisions, destroying 9,000 German soldiers and officers, more than 80 tanks, and numerous artillery pieces. For exemplary performance of tasks in the fight against the German invaders, the 316th Rifle Division was awarded the title of the 8th Guards Division. In the battles near Guskovo, in the Volokolamsk area, at 6:30 AM on November 18, 1941, Major General I. V. Panfilov was killed." He was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
In addition to him, 28 soldiers of the Panfilov Division were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The heroism of the Panfilov Guardsmen has forever entered history as an example of patriotism and friendship among nations.
In order to establish personal connections with the fighting soldiers at the front, the executive committee of the Frunze City Council sent a deputy of the city council, the widow of the general - Maria Ivanovna Panfilova, to the Western Front on February 5, 1942, with gifts that were presented to the soldiers, commanders, and political workers of the active 8th Guards Division. This inspired the fighters to new military feats.
As part of the Northwestern Front units, the Panfilov Division broke through the enemy's defenses east of the city of Staraya Russa in March 1942, liberated the city of Rezhitsy, and was awarded the Order of Lenin. On July 26, 1944, it liberated the city of Riga, for which it was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, and in November 1944, it was awarded the Order of Suvorov 2nd class. During the war, the Panfilov Division destroyed more than 85,000 fascist invaders, captured and destroyed 387 tanks, 65 armored vehicles, 43 aircraft, 451 artillery pieces, 2,010 automobiles, 328 motorcycles, 180 mortars, 828 machine guns, and more. 34 soldiers of the Panfilov Division were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and more than 20,000 were awarded orders and medals. To perpetuate the memory of I. V. Panfilov, a bust of I. V. Panfilov was erected in the capital in the culture park.

Among the Frunze warriors, 14 were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for courage and bravery on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
Thus, in Bishkek, on Young Guard Avenue at the intersection with Moscow Street, a bust of the celebrated squadron commander, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Talgat Begeldinov, a former graduate of the Frunze Flight School, was installed.
He has over 500 combat sorties and battles against enemy pilots throughout the four-year military action. The capital's administration maintained a lively connection with the soldiers of the active army. Thus, on May 23, 1942, the newspaper "Soviet Kyrgyzstan" reported that during the stay of the delegation of the 4th Guards Corps and the 8th Guards Panfilov Division in the capital, a large rally was held in Dubovy Park, where front-line soldiers spoke about their combat deeds, the heroic defenders of the Motherland, the atrocities of the fascist invaders, and assured the workers of the rear that they would fight the enemy without sparing their strength until complete victory, while the Frunze residents promised to increase the production of goods urgently needed at the front. At the end of July 1942, Frunze was visited by guards: Senior Lieutenant Aydarkan Akhmedov, Junior Lieutenant of the Medical Service Valentina Panfilova, and other front-line soldiers who met with the residents of the capital.
