At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection, held on March 9, Deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova (District No. 3) raised an important issue regarding the potential air pollution and the threat of acid rain in connection with geopolitical events.

During the meeting, the activities of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision for the year 2025 were discussed.

According to Mavlyanova, current international conflicts may have an adverse impact on the environmental situation, including in Kyrgyzstan. She mentioned reports indicating that dangerous chemical compounds could have entered the atmosphere following strikes on oil refineries in the Middle East.

“After the recent attacks by Israel on Iranian oil refineries, there have been reports of toxic substance emissions into the air. There are concerns that precipitation could lead to the risk of acid rain,” the deputy noted.

Mavlyanova also inquired about the availability of technical resources in Kyrgyzstan for monitoring such phenomena and about potential regions that could be affected by such precipitation.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Asel Raimkulova stated that the ministry itself does not conduct such monitoring. She noted that atmospheric processes are monitored by the "Kyrgyzhydromet" service, which has automated stations for observations.

The deputy suggested bringing this issue to the government's attention to consider the possibility of more thorough monitoring of environmental risks.
