Ministry of Natural Resources: National Climate Change Adaptation Plan Developed

At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection on March 9, Asel Raimkulova, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, reported on the adoption of key documents in the field of climate policy and environmental safety.

During the meeting, the activities of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision for the year 2025 were discussed. Raimkulova noted that according to the presidential decree dated March 27, number 105, the Concept of Environmental Safety was approved. Additionally, on July 3, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted resolution number 397 on the Concept of Carbon Neutrality. As part of these initiatives, a draft National Adaptation Plan for Climate Change was developed. Furthermore, on August 12, resolution number 487 was established, which created the Coordinating Council on Ecology, Climate, and Green Economy.

The Deputy Minister reported that at the council meeting held on September 19, the third nationally determined contribution and the national inventory document were approved, which were subsequently sent to the secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Raimkulova also emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is a participant in 14 international environmental conventions and has signed 8 agreements with various countries, such as Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Korea, Japan, China, and the United Kingdom. Currently, 7 international environmental projects aimed at improving air quality, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring radiation safety are being implemented in the country, she added.
