On November 25, a Forum on Climate Action took place in Bishkek, where 21 cities joined the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GcoM) and presented their Climate Action Plans (CAPs) under NDC 3.0 (NDCs are Nationally Determined Contributions that each country develops in accordance with the Paris Agreement).

According to the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the event was attended by representatives of the government, local authorities, as well as international organizations and financial institutions. During the forum, plans for six cities were officially completed: Batken, Jalal-Abad (Manas), Karakol, Naryn, Talas, and Tokmok. These plans align with Kyrgyzstan's climate priorities and commitments made under the Paris Agreement, aimed at achieving the climate goals set in NDC 3.0.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Asel Raimkulova emphasized that attention is being paid to supporting cities in developing and implementing local initiatives for climate change adaptation. This includes strengthening monitoring and reporting systems, developing vulnerability and risk assessment mechanisms, and enhancing the institutional capacity of local self-governments.

EU Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Remi Duflo noted that climate change poses serious challenges for the country, including glacier melting, water resource shortages, land degradation, and loss of biodiversity.

Aligning NDC 3.0 with local climate initiatives is crucial, as cities and local communities are the first to feel the impacts of climate change and play a key role in developing solutions, including the implementation of renewable energy sources, sustainable land use, and resilience planning.
