The recent drop in sugar prices to 14.47 cents per pound (which is just under half a kilogram) has resulted from stable production and the impact of advancements in weight loss medications, as reported by Reuters citing brokers.
According to information published in the report, the significant price decline is also linked to the forecast from the well-known Brazilian consulting company Datagro. Last week, they estimated a global sugar surplus of 1.98 million tons for the 2025/26 season, whereas they previously anticipated a deficit of five million tons.
At the time of preparing this material, sugar prices had fallen to 14.43 cents per pound, representing a decrease of 3.61 percent.
After a sharp decline in December 2020, prices began to recover in 2021, which was attributed to the effects of frost in Brazil that damaged sugarcane crops. Since the beginning of this year, sugar has become approximately 25 percent cheaper.
