Orozbaev: Without price regulation on oil and sugar, the population would have lost 1.2 billion soms

Jeenaly Orozbaev, head of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service, stated in a podcast by the agency "Kabar" that if price regulation on sugar and vegetable oil had not been introduced in 2021, the population would have incurred losses of about 1.2 billion soms.

Orozbaev noted that thanks to temporary measures that lasted for 90 days, it was possible to stabilize the situation in the market.

“In 2021, we implemented state price regulation on sunflower oil and sugar for a period of 90 days. According to our calculations, without these measures, the population would have overpaid 1.2 billion soms. A liter of oil at that time cost 180 soms, whereas previously the price was at the level of 110 soms. Sugar rose to 105 soms, while now it is sold for 75 soms. The direct impact of our service lies in conducting such activities,” he emphasized.
