Meat Market. Why is it still difficult to bypass distributors in the Kyrgyz Republic and is there a solution? – experts' response

The question of the possibility of direct sales by livestock breeders without the involvement of intermediaries became a topic of discussion within the framework of the program "Elden Sobol," organized by the news agency "Kabar." During the broadcast, Ulan Chekirbaev, head of the food security department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, and independent expert Tynchtyk Altymychev shared their thoughts on this matter.

As Ulan Chekirbaev noted, distributors play an important role in retail trade, as it is impractical for farmers from remote regions to travel to the city just to sell one animal.

“Distributors, by fulfilling their functions, provide the necessary products for restaurants and other catering establishments. Excluding them from this chain would be a mistaken step,” he added.

Tynchtyk Altymychev, for his part, suggested considering the possibility of creating agricultural cooperatives as an alternative solution. He believes that uniting producers into cooperatives will allow them to consolidate their volumes and enter the market directly, which will help develop direct sales of agricultural products.
