Celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory over fascism in the Great Patriotic War have started in Bishkek. On Sunday, May 3, a commemorative bicycle race organized by the Bishkek city administration took place in the capital, with about 1,000 cycling enthusiasts participating. On Monday, May 4, a Parade of Young Heirs of the Great Victory was held in the city center. Six thousand children from Bishkek schools, military lyceums, and children's creative and sports groups took part in it.
Preparation for the Parade took several months, and its participants were excused from their studies. The result of their efforts justified the missed lessons: a large-scale theatrical performance unfolded before invited World War II veterans and home front workers, officials, teachers from the capital's schools, and residents and guests of the capital, covering almost a century of the country's history: from the 1930s to the present day.
Dancers expressed both the serenity of the pre-war days and the hardships of the war years, the joy of Victory, and the restoration of the country from ruins with the help of the Kyrgyz SSR, the turmoil of perestroika, and finally, the flourishing of the multinational Kyrgyz Republic in the era of sovereignty. A "memory watch" passed in separate formation with portraits of those who fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. After the dance performances and marching with flags and standards, military vehicles took to the square: the role of combat vehicles and artillery in the "adult" Parade was played by SUVs, sports cars, and motorcycles.
