Daily habits of drivers threaten to ruin cars faster than natural wear and tear.
The reasons why modern cars do not reach a respectable age often lie not only in factory defects. The culprits are the drivers themselves, who harm their vehicles without realizing it.
One of the key habits that require attention is ignoring road irregularities. In an attempt to speed past a pothole, the driver does not realize that the car's suspension is subjected to significant stress. This can lead to the weakening of suspension components, the appearance of knocks and vibrations, as well as a distortion of geometry. As a result, such actions lead to costly repairs that could be avoided simply by reducing speed.
It is also worth noting a common mistake — sudden starts and stops. Drivers who prefer an aggressive driving style contribute to the rapid wear of brake pads and discs, as well as components of the transmission and engine.
Equally destructive is winter grime. Many motorists believe that washing the car in cold weather is pointless; however, the mixture of reagents and salt that settles on the body harms the paintwork and promotes corrosion. Hidden cavities, wheel arches, and thresholds suffer the most. Regular washing of the body and undercarriage is not just a whim, but a necessary measure to protect against rust.
There are also other misconceptions, such as the need to warm up the engine. Although modern engines can start in cold conditions, oil does not immediately reach all components. In the first few seconds, metal parts rub against each other without sufficient lubrication, which increases wear. A short warm-up, especially in winter, allows the oil to form a protective film, which extends the engine's lifespan.
A responsible attitude towards one's car, careful driving, and basic maintenance will not only help extend the vehicle's lifespan but also save the owner significant money. Sometimes, it is enough to change a few habits to significantly increase the car's service life.
