Witnesses describe that the raids create an atmosphere of fear in Chicago, where federal agents are actively searching for and detaining undocumented immigrants. Reports are surfacing on social media that law enforcement officers are using force.
For nearly two months, unexpected raids have been conducted in Chicago, carried out under the directives of President Donald Trump's administration. These operations are typically focused in areas with a high concentration of migrants from Latin America. The pursuit of undocumented immigrants also affects law-abiding citizens, raising widespread concern.
Uriel Villegas, who witnessed one of the raids, said: "My brother, of course, didn't want to get caught, as he is an undocumented immigrant. He started running, and then several cars pulled up, they (the police) knocked him to the ground, and I chased after them."
Another witness, Jose Aguilar, shared his feelings: "I am an American of Mexican descent, and I carry the weight of responsibility. We must do everything we can to support each other."
As a result of the operation called "Blitz Midway," which began in Chicago in early September, more than 3,300 migrants have been detained.
