These restrictions were introduced in 2022, according to information from the publication "Meduza." Now, Russians and non-residents from "friendly" countries can transfer up to $1 million (or the equivalent in another currency) to foreign accounts per month, and through money transfer systems — no more than $10,000.
However, for non-residents from "unfriendly" countries, the restrictions remain in place, and they can only transfer abroad an amount equal to their monthly salary if they work in Russia.
The initial restrictions on transfers were introduced in March 2022. In June, the Bank of Russia partially eased them, raising the transfer limit from $150,000 to $1 million. Since then, they have been extended for six months several times, most recently at the end of September 2025, with an extension until March 31, 2026.
