The recent elections in the Jogorku Kenesh have concluded, and the deputies have already begun their work, opening the first session of the new convocation on December 17. Unlike previous elections, this process took place without loud scandals and threats of a coup, indicating the viability of the new political system introduced by President Japarov.
As a rule, elections in Kyrgyzstan become a catalyst for social unrest, and many analysts expected this to happen again this time. However, the president stated in advance that revolutions and coups would no longer recur in the country, as the conditions that foster such events have been eliminated.
The electoral process will be remembered for its calm and businesslike atmosphere. Although there were some minor incidents, overall there were no dissatisfied candidates or disappointed voters. There were also no external observers reporting serious violations.
The system proposed by Sadyr Japarov demonstrated its effectiveness. The elections were conducted using an automated system, which minimized the human factor and reduced the risks of falsifications. The president noted that previous revolutions in the country occurred in the context of electoral conflicts, which was the reason for the transition to an automated voting system.
Thanks to Japarov's initiatives, voters were provided with convenient conditions for voting, including the possibility of remote voting and the opening of polling stations in shopping centers and markets.
The people supported the president in the context of the new majoritarian system, which, according to some experts, weakened political parties. However, others note that these parties have long lost their significance and merely imitated activity within the framework of a parliamentary republic. Citizens observed that many political formations lack a clear ideology and exist only to garner votes in elections.
President Japarov has realized the people's expectations, giving them legitimacy. The election results showed that a strong and charismatic candidate can receive more votes than if supported by an ineffective party. This also aligns with the concept of a presidential republic, as in 2021 Japarov amended the Constitution, increasing his powers and responsibilities.
As the head of a presidential republic, Japarov takes responsibility for both achievements and failures, relying on the support of the people. If his actions do not meet expectations, he will not hide behind previous leaders of the country. The achievements of the president and his team are already being noticed and recognized by citizens who are inclined towards patriotism.
The presidential elections are still ahead, scheduled for next year. Nevertheless, it can be asserted that the people of Kyrgyzstan have already expressed their support for Sadyr Japarov, approving his reforms and course towards the stable development of the country.
