51-year-old Maksat Korchiev, residing in the village of Kerege-Tash in the Ak-Suu district, is studying in his third year.

In Maksat's family, there are four children, three of whom are also continuing their education at universities.

“It’s never too late to learn. For example, I am currently studying for a degree in ‘Acting’ in Karakol at the educational institution named after I. Tumanov. Since there is no correspondence department here, I have to travel from the village to attend classes,” he shares.

Maksat has been engaged in creativity for about 20 years.

“I play the komuz, often act as a toastmaster at various events, actively participate in the cultural life of the village, and lead the local club. After obtaining my education, I hope to uncover new facets of my talent and start acting in films. Creative people are always in search, and this is the key to success. I strive to contribute to the development of our culture,” he shares.

Additionally, Maksat is expanding his horizons in the tourism sector by opening an ethnic-style recreation area at the foot of the mountains.

“Five years ago, I started working as a guide, taking tourists from Karakol to Lake Ala-Köl. They are interested in our nature and culture, noting its uniqueness. As a result, I decided to create a recreation area for them, where I set up yurts and offer national dishes. In spring, we keep mares, and both local and foreign tourists come to us,” he explains.

The price for 200 grams of mare's milk is 50 soms. Guests are encouraged to drink it five times a day, and if someone wants three meals a day and accommodation, it will cost 1500 soms. According to Maksat, tourists are already starting to learn about his place and note the health benefits of mare's milk for the body.

Maksat not only demonstrates Kyrgyz hospitality but also introduces guests to the culture of his people: he invites manaschy and organizes workshops with artisans.

“Currently, we also serve nature events and small tois — we cater to them as well. Our people are known for their hospitality, and we are happy to feed and interact with tourists. People appreciate our genuine authenticity,” adds Maksat Korchiev.
