Narynbek Omurzakov, residing in Karakol, Issyk-Kul region, teaches children to play the komuz, one of the symbols of Kyrgyz culture.

For over 30 years, he has been engaged in pedagogical work, preparing numerous students who successfully perform in various competitions.

Narynbek Sharshenbekovich Omurzakov was born on January 12, 1975, and is the father of three children: a son and two daughters. He previously taught komuz at an art school and now heads this educational institution.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, Omurzakov shared that he began playing the komuz at the age of 10, attending a club at the music school. His first mentor was Zholdoshbek Urkunbaev. Since then, the komuz has become an integral part of his life, and he often plays melodies whenever he gets the chance.

Narynbek began his teaching career in 1995 at the Y.Tumanov College and has been working at the art school for 7 years.

Omurzakov also shared recommendations for parents on how to help their children master playing the komuz more quickly. “It all depends on the child's natural talent, their ear, and perception of music. Undoubtedly, the child's own interest is of great importance. Some parents who love listening to komuz music bring their children to classes. However, if the child is not interested, they are unlikely to grasp the art of playing this instrument. Recently, there has been a growing interest among children in learning to play the komuz, and this is encouraging,” noted the educator.

Among his students are those who proudly continue the traditions of playing the komuz, passing this art from generation to generation as an important part of cultural heritage. Thanks to his skills, Omurzakov has visited various cities in Turkey, Korea, and Russia.

“Foreigners perceive the melodies of the komuz very positively. We often hold concerts in Karakol for tourists, and they enthusiastically applaud our performances. I remember a trip to Turkey during Ramadan. We were part of a delegation of seven people, and we were received with great warmth. Playing the komuz made a big impression on them, and they are interested in the history and culture of our people,” he added.

Narynbek Omurzakov also emphasized the importance of choosing the right komuz for teaching. “When selecting an instrument, it is best to consult someone who already plays the komuz. If the sound is good, then the instrument is worth acquiring. Sometimes, there are komuz instruments with poor sound quality. The main thing is that the melody of this instrument resonates in our hearts. The komuz should hold an honored place in every home, as preserving Kyrgyz culture is a sacred duty for each of us. May the komuz always sound, delighting us with its melodies,” he concluded.
