Meder Chopiev, a dentist from Kemin, Chuy region, has been helping his patients for over 10 years.

He was born in 1992 in his hometown of Kemin and is currently a happy husband and father of three children – two daughters and a son.

“I started my education at the Nasyr Davlesov school from 1998 to 2004, after which I continued my studies at the Kyrgyz-Turkish Lyceum 'Sebat' from 2004 to 2009. Then I enrolled in the medical faculty of Slavic University, where I studied dentistry from 2009 to 2014. I completed my internship at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of the Ministry of Health from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, I began my career at a private clinic in Kemin and have been working there ever since,” he shared.

According to Meder, the decision to become a dentist came to him while he was in the 10th grade.
“From that moment on, I started to prepare seriously, paying special attention to biology and chemistry. I researched which universities provide the best education in dentistry. Initially, I thought about studying in Turkey, but the high tuition fees made me abandon that idea. When I announced my intention to become a dentist, most people in my circle, including my parents, expressed their disagreement, suggesting I consider more 'prestigious' professions, such as diplomat, prosecutor, or energy specialist,” he added.

“During my school years, representatives of various professions visited us. One visit stood out in particular – an ophthalmologist spoke so passionately about his work that it was then I finally decided to choose medicine. That was the moment I put a bold period at the end of my choice,” Meder recalled.

Despite the initial resistance from his family, he was able to convince his parents. “Their concerns were related to the low salaries of medical professionals, as well as the belief that I would receive 'gratitude' in the form of alcohol, which, in their opinion, could lead to bad habits,” he noted.

“This is certainly a stereotype that arose during the difficult times after the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, everything has changed now. In any profession, one can find their worthy place, and there is no reason to think that working in medicine will lead to failures,” he added.

Meder also emphasized that he gained practical experience thanks to the local dentist Kanat Sydykov.

“During the winter break in my second year, my mom arranged for me to do an internship with Sydykov. Since then, I have not parted ways with him and spent every vacation with him. After graduating from university, I started working in his clinic, and we worked together until 2022. He taught me all the nuances of being a dentist, and I am very grateful to him,” Chopiev said.

From 2014 to 2015, he completed his internship at the National Hospital in the maxillofacial surgery department. “It was a real school where patients from all over the country with very complex cases gathered,” he added.

In addition to his professional activities, Meder has hobbies.

“In winter, I go skiing. As a child, I couldn't wait for winter to end, but now I eagerly await the snow. Recently, I became a member of the Sailing Federation and have been windsurfing in Balykchy for two years,” he said.

“However, this sport requires significant financial investment: the gear and equipment are not cheap, and it also takes time to get to the ski resorts. Good transportation is also necessary. But I still find ways to participate in competitions,” he concluded.
