He currently holds the position of chairman of the trade union of workers in the energy and electrical engineering sector of Kyrgyzstan.
According to Itikeev, his name evokes special respect among the local residents of the Leilek district in the Batken region.
This name was chosen for him by his father, Turusbek Itikeev, in 1959, when he was working as a teacher in the village of Korgon, located in the same district.
“Our family is from the Talas region. My father, Turusbek Itikeev, after graduating from the Kyrgyz State University in Frunze in 1959, went to the south, to the remote village of Korgon, for his specialty. There he began his teaching career at a school now named after Kurbanali Sabirov. It was also the year I was born,” he recounts.
“My father discussed with friends, Zayir and Dosbek, how to name me, and settled on the name ‘Leilekbek’. We lived in Leilek until I was two years old, after which we moved to Bishkek. In 2001, I visited Leilek and saw the house where we lived. And in 2018, when my father turned 80, I took him to the school where he worked, and he participated in the last bell ceremony. The residents of Leilek have become like family to me, and they treat me the same way,” added Leilekbek.
He has worked in law enforcement for about 30 years and participated in significant events in Batken, where he received the rank of colonel.
“I am proud of my name ‘Leilekbek’, and this district, as well as Batken as a whole, holds an important place in my heart. I am the second of eight children in the family, and I already have five of my own,” concluded Itikeev.
