The driver was behind the wheel of the car in which Joshua was present when the accident occurred.
According to media reports, the SUV lost control due to speeding and collided with a truck that was parked on the side of the road. As a result of the accident, the athlete sustained minor injuries, while two other participants in the accident died — they were close friends and members of Joshua's team.
Witnesses of the incident claim that the convoy consisted of two vehicles — a Lexus and a Toyota Pajero. At the moment of impact, there were four people in the Lexus. One of the passengers sitting next to the driver died on the spot. Bystanders immediately began to assist the injured and stop passing cars until the ambulance arrived.
On December 19, Joshua held an exhibition match with blogger Jake Paul. This bout, which took place in Miami, ended in the sixth round by technical knockout in favor of the British boxer. For Paul, this defeat marked the second in his career, while he has 12 victories to his name. Joshua, for his part, demonstrated 28 wins and 4 losses.
Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, commented on rumors that the fight between Joshua and Paul was staged.
He noted that the fight was completely genuine:
“Everything was 100% honest. There was no strategy, deal, or script. Anthony aimed to land a precise blow as quickly as possible, but he only succeeded in the sixth round.”
According to the promoter, the consequences for Jake Paul were serious:
— the blogger suffered a jaw fracture in two places;
— there is a possibility that he may never return to boxing again.
