Elnura Kadyrbek kyzy, a resident of the village of Koouchu [Көөчү] in the Tyup district of the Issyk-Kul region, is actively engaged in beekeeping with her family. In 2024, she shared information about her business with a Turmush correspondent.

According to her, the love for beekeeping came after her marriage. "I was born in the village of Ichke-Suu and finished school there. My husband is from the village of Koouchu, and we got married 13 years ago, raising four children. My father-in-law had a beehive, and my husband has been passionate about beekeeping since his youth and helped take care of the bees. After marriage, I started participating in this business and learned," she said.

When they began living separately, her in-laws passed on about 10 hives to them, and last year they increased this number to 20. "Now we are actively engaged in beekeeping," she added.

From May to September 2024, the family transported the hives to pastures and mountainous areas, which allowed them to collect over half a ton of honey. Their customers included both local residents and foreigners who highly appreciated the taste of their products. "When the apricots began to bloom, we moved the hives to Kichi-Oruktuu, then to fields with barberry in Jeti-Oguz, and later to sainfoin fields in the village of Intymak. We collected the first honey there and then continued in the Karkyra valley. In the end, our 20 hives brought in 200,000 soms, and we offered four types of honey — with barberry, mountain herbs, sainfoin, and sea buckthorn, priced at 450–500 soms per kilogram," Elnura reported.

According to her, their customers included Kazakhs, Russians, and tourists from Europe and America. "They admired the taste of our honey and its aroma, created by a mixture of mountain herbs. The product was in demand. But, like in any business, there are difficulties. Bees need to be cared for like children: treated and fed on time. Bees can get sick, and if the hive is not treated, it can lead to their death. Therefore, we take measures to prevent diseases," she added.

In the future, the family plans to expand the number of hives and develop the business, attracting tourists to increase profits," concluded Kadyrbek kyzy.
