Kurmanbek Zhantaev, a resident of the village of Kayyndy-Bulak in the Ak-Talinsky district of the Naryn region, has been passionate about producing biohumus for over 15 years.

“I grow various fruits such as apples, apricots, currants, and raspberries. Realizing that my gardens needed organic fertilizers, I started producing biohumus. I use part of it for my own needs and sell the rest. The price is 25 soms, and for wholesale buyers, it’s 20 soms. The advantages of biohumus lie in its safety for plants; it does not cause 'overheating' issues,” he noted.

Additionally, Zhantaev offers worms for sale at a price of 300 soms per kg. “Worms are used to create biohumus. To process one hectare of land, 30-40 tons of manure is needed, while only 2 tons of biohumus are required. It is also popular among those engaged in floriculture,” he added.

Kurmanbek shared how to keep worms during the winter period:

“Depending on the amount of collected manure, you need to dig a pit 160-170 cm deep and wider than one and a half meters. We place the manure in this pit and then add the worms. It is important to maintain constant moisture; otherwise, the worms may die. In high temperatures, I cover the pit, and when it dries out, I add water. Insulation is also necessary. The volume of produced biohumus depends on the number of worms: the more there are, the faster the process. In winter, the pit should be covered with a layer of manure 40 cm thick; this will help the worms survive the cold,” he shared.

Kurmanbek Zhantaev has also been growing raspberries for over 20 years.

“I planted raspberries back in the days of the Soviet Union when I had just gotten married. Since then, I have been harvesting a good yield. We sell the berries fresh and as jam, but we do not count the sales volumes for the season. People who know about our products come to us, so we do not go to the market. Raspberries propagate on their own but require timely watering and pruning. If you do not take care of them, there will be no harvest. I also offer raspberry seedlings at a price of 15-20 soms for those interested,” he concluded.
