Damir Osmonov, the Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan, during his working trip visited several medical institutions in the Naryn region, including the Center for General Medical Practice in the At-Bashy district, the Naryn Regional Family Medicine Center, the Naryn Regional Unified Hospital, and the Central Outpatient Clinic of the Kochkor district.

During his visit to the At-Bashy Central Outpatient Clinic, the minister familiarized himself with various departments, including therapeutic, surgical, infectious, maternity, and pediatric. The center, serving about 50,000 residents, of which over 13,000 are children under 14 years old, is equipped with 110 beds.

The staffing issue became one of the key aspects of the visit. In 2025, seven new specialists were attracted to the institution, including an obstetrician-gynecologist, a pediatrician, an infectious disease specialist, and an anesthesiologist. A young obstetrician-gynecologist, in particular, delivered about 600 births in a year, indicating a high demand for such specialists.

Despite this, the institution is experiencing a shortage of staff: out of 42 doctors, almost half are of pre-retirement and retirement age, and 24 vacancies remain unfilled. The need to attract more experienced specialists for mentorship and the professional development of young doctors was discussed.

To improve working conditions for medical professionals in the area, various measures are planned, including the operation of a dormitory with 19 rooms and the provision of official apartments.

The minister also reviewed the operation of a modern laparoscopic apparatus, which was acquired thanks to a Japanese grant. The topic of the need for professional development of specialists was raised, including attracting experienced doctors from Bishkek to conduct training operations on-site.

At the Naryn Regional Unified Hospital, the minister inspected facilities being prepared for launch, including the installation of an angiograph and the development of a catheterization laboratory, as well as assessed the work of the cardiology department and modern equipment.

During the visit, Osmonov held meetings with medical staff, discussing important issues of staffing and infrastructure development, and gave a number of instructions for their resolution.

In addition, the minister visited the Central Outpatient Clinic of the Kochkor district, where he familiarized himself with the process of constructing a new building.

“We are observing a high workload on doctors, even considering the presence of young specialists. Our task is to simultaneously strengthen the staffing potential and create comfortable working conditions for doctors in the field. Since April of this year, a salary increase for medical workers is planned, which should serve as an additional incentive to attract specialists to the regions. The example of the At-Bashy Central Outpatient Clinic shows that the availability of housing and support can help form stable teams of doctors,” emphasized Damir Osmonov.
