A seminar aimed at identifying synthetic drugs, including new psychoactive substances (NPS), as well as developing reporting in accordance with international quality management standards, was held in Tashkent.

Experts from Central Asia participated in the seminar, including Marina Satarova, the chief expert of the KEMVI management of the Forensic Expert Service under the Ministry of Justice of Kyrgyzstan.

The seminar took place at the Central Customs Laboratory of Uzbekistan. Instructors included international specialists from Italy and Lithuania, as well as experts from the Central Asian Regional Information Coordination Center for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking and Psychotropic Substances (CARICC).

The main goal of the program was to create a sustainable intergovernmental mechanism for exchanging information about new dangerous substances between Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan. This will allow for quicker identification of new drugs and responses to their spread.

The seminar program included both theoretical lectures and practical sessions. Participants studied:

• modern methods for analyzing new psychoactive substances;

• drug profiling as a means of forensic investigation;

• international approaches to quality control in forensic chemistry laboratories;

• the basics of quantitative analysis, including the construction of calibration curves and method validation.

The practical session included expertise using modern analytical equipment, such as gas chromatographs with mass spectrometric detectors Agilent 7890 and Shimadzu, as well as quantitative analysis of tetrahydrocannabinol.

At the end of the seminar, all participants were awarded international certificates.
