International news has reported the arrest of a couple from Kazakhstan, suspected of defrauding a Sydney casino out of 1.18 million dollars. This has been reported by Kazakh media, including The Guardian.
The couple, a 36-year-old woman and her 44-year-old husband, are accused of using a hidden camera disguised as a Mickey Mouse t-shirt and headphones to communicate while playing at the casino. They were arrested in the Barangaroo area.
"Casino staff noticed a woman with a small hidden camera on her clothing. After that, they notified the police, who quickly apprehended both," law enforcement representatives said.
The investigation revealed that the arrested individuals also had small magnetic probes, batteries, and a mobile phone with an advanced attachment for transmitting images. Additionally, during a search of their residence, police seized gambling paraphernalia, valuable jewelry, and 2,000 euros.
The couple arrived in Sydney from Kazakhstan in October 2025 and applied for casino membership on the same day.
Throughout October and November, they repeatedly visited the casino, winning a total of 1.18 million dollars, which raised suspicions among the establishment's management.
According to New South Wales police, the couple used mobile phones to take pictures of the gaming tables and had headphones through which they received betting instructions in various card games, allowing them to deceive the casino.
According to the publication, the couple will face court regarding bail. Neither of them has filed a request for bail, resulting in the court's denial. The woman is scheduled to appear in court again in February next year, while her husband is set to appear on December 11.
