The problem of traffic jams has become so acute that the meeting pointed to the growing population, the increasing number of cars, and the activation of economic processes, which in turn creates a significant burden on Tashkent's transport infrastructure. Currently, traffic jams reaching 7-8 points have become a common occurrence, while the use of public transport remains at a low level. The situation also negatively impacts the environment. To address these issues, a proven model has been proposed — an intelligent transport system. It will allow for centralized control, analysis, and planning of traffic in real-time.
To implement this idea, the establishment of a unified traffic management center in Tashkent is planned, which will manage the intelligent transport system. This platform will be able to collect data from various sensors, cameras, and GPS devices, maintain statistics, forecast traffic jams, optimize routes, regulate traffic light phases, and even call emergency services in case of accidents.
The authors of the initiative suggest that the traffic management center will be assigned additional responsibilities, such as modeling transport and pedestrian routes, developing a master plan, creating parking facilities, enhancing infrastructure for electric vehicle charging, and promoting the use of individual means of transportation.
It is expected that the implementation of ITS will lead to a reduction in average travel time, an increase in the speed of ambulance arrival at the scene of incidents, as well as a decrease in congestion and accidents on major roads.
The meeting also presented the results of the work of the relevant ministries and agencies. It was reported that in recent years, the bus fleet of the capital has doubled and now consists of nearly 1,900 units, while the intervals between buses have decreased from 30 to 15 minutes, allowing for the daily transportation of 1.4 million passengers.
The total length of metro lines, both underground and aboveground, is about 70.5 kilometers, the number of stations has increased from 29 to 50, and 900,000 people are served here daily.
Additionally, statistics on the improvement of traffic organization in Tashkent were presented: 2,870 road signs have been replaced, 2,770 new ones installed, and 55 traffic lights set up.
