According to new legislation, users under the age of 16 must delete their accounts from TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, Snapchat, Reddit, Kick, Twitch, and Threads. The top ten most popular platforms are required to block children's access to their resources, or they face fines of up to 49.5 million Australian dollars (approximately 33 million US dollars), reports The Guardian.

All companies, except X, have expressed agreement with the new requirements.

The new measure has sparked negative reactions from tech giants and free speech advocates. However, many parents and child protection advocates support this initiative.

The rollout of the law has faced certain challenges: as reported by Guardian Australia, some teenagers have managed to bypass facial age verification. Authorities have acknowledged that they do not expect perfect results from day one and plan to improve the system.

Other countries are closely monitoring the Australian experiment. Malaysia, Denmark, and Norway are already exploring the possibility of implementing similar measures, while the European Union has passed a resolution on potential restrictions at the union level.
