After the deal is completed, it is expected that the American division of TikTok will operate in accordance with the principles of "protecting the data of American citizens and U.S. national security." In particular, user data from the U.S. will be stored on American soil under the management of Oracle.
Over the past few years, U.S. authorities have sought to establish control over TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. Specifically, Donald Trump attempted to ban TikTok's operations in the U.S. during his first presidential term, but a court overturned that decision. His successor, Joe Biden, also initiated a bill that would restrict the platform's operations unless ByteDance sold its stake.
In September 2025, Trump, having returned to power, announced an agreement reached with Chinese authorities regarding the "TikTok deal." It later became known that the American part of the company is planned to be sold to a consortium of local investors.
