According to information provided by the city's internet communications department, the incident occurred between a muntjac (or Chinese water deer) and a female rhinoceros named Marusya. The hoofed animal keeper from the Wrocław Zoo explained that the behavior of the muntjac was due to its high territoriality and hormonal activity: its female was in heat, which provoked the male to defend his territory against the perceived "invasion."

At the same time, according to the specialist, Marusya did not show aggression and rather perceived the actions of the muntjac as play. However, when she decided to move away, the rhinoceros snorted, indicating that she was not interested in continuing the interaction.

The zoo noted that such incidents are not unusual: in the wild, muntjacs and Indian rhinoceroses inhabit the same territory and often graze nearby without conflicts, which is why they are kept together in the same enclosure in the zoo.
