Mongolians attempted to smuggle a rhino horn, which is one of the most expensive smuggled goods on the black market.

Three citizens of Mongolia, known as Zh, A., and D., received three severed rhino horns from France via international mail. These horns belong to a species that is endangered, and they intended to transport them to China. The case is under the control of the Criminal Police Service of Mongolia.

On the black market, the price of rhino horn can reach $60,000 per kilogram, and in some Asian countries, such as China and Vietnam, it is attributed with healing properties and used as an aphrodisiac.

According to the DPA news agency, in 2024, 420 rhinos were killed in South Africa as a result of poaching activities.

There are about 20,000 white and black rhinos living in Africa. In 2017, approximately a thousand of them were killed. In response to poaching, the governments of African countries are organizing the confiscation of illegally obtained horns and elephant tusks. For example, last year in Kenya, 105 tons of confiscated elephant tusks and one ton of rhino horns were burned.

Some species of rhinos are on the brink of extinction. It was previously reported that the last male northern white rhino was registered on the dating site Tinder, which is an attempt by animal rights activists to draw public attention and raise funds for infertility treatment.
