NASA is preparing to launch a rocket with astronauts to the Moon

For the first time in over half a century, NASA is preparing to launch a crewed mission that will take place in lunar orbit, and this event could happen in just three weeks, as reported by Kazinform, citing NBC News.

The Space Launch System rocket with the Orion capsule, reaching a height of 98 meters, has been moved to the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for an important system check necessary for launching four astronauts into lunar orbit.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration plans to conduct a series of tests and dress rehearsals as part of the preparation for the Artemis II mission, which will be the first of its kind. If everything goes successfully, NASA will be able to announce the exact launch date. Currently, it is expected that the flight could take place between February 6 and 11, with possible dates also being considered in March and April.

As part of the Artemis II mission, four astronauts — Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch from NASA, as well as Canadian Jeremy Hansen — will spend 10 days in space, first orbiting the Earth and then entering lunar orbit. This will be a significant test for the Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft. The success of this mission will lay the groundwork for the next mission, Artemis III, which is scheduled for 2027 and aims to land astronauts near the Moon's south pole.

Returning to the Moon has become an important goal for President Donald Trump, especially in the context of a new space race with China, which has announced its intention to land its astronauts on the Moon by 2030.
