Initially, European leaders planned to meet with the U.S. President, which could have taken place on December 13 in Paris. However, the Polish radio station RMF, citing a source in the Élysée Palace, denied this information, stating that such a meeting was not scheduled.
White House representative Caroline Levitt previously noted that the U.S. would send its representative to Berlin only if there was a "real chance of signing a peace agreement" and if the negotiations promised to be productive. She emphasized that Donald Trump is "tired of meetings for the sake of meetings" and expects concrete results regarding the cessation of the conflict.
Trump also mentioned that during a phone call on December 10 with Merz, Macron, and Starmer, dedicated to Ukraine, "sharp words" were exchanged. He noted that the decision on U.S. participation in future negotiations would depend on their outcomes.
