Cooperation between Mongolia and Kazakhstan in the field of free and special economic zones is moving to a new strategic level

During a working visit to Kazakhstan, a delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, Gankhuu Khassuur, held official talks with Yersain Nagaspaev, the Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan.

As of today, there are 17 special economic zones operating in Kazakhstan, within which 532 industrial projects have been implemented, generating 11.9 trillion tenge (approximately $25.3 billion) in production revenue and 656.6 billion tenge (about $1.4 billion) in tax revenues to the state budget. The planned implementation of 337 new investment projects also confirms the stability and real economic efficiency of these zones.

During the meeting, the Kazakh side detailed its experience accumulated since 2019 in the development of free and special economic zones, including the legal framework, organizational structure, management and operation models, as well as mechanisms for attracting investments and public-private partnerships.

The Kazakh side confirmed its openness to Mongolian investors, expressing a desire to create favorable conditions for them both within the country's special economic zones and beyond.

Furthermore, the parties agreed on the possibility of further localization of solutions based on Kazakhstan's successful institutional model and management system to reform the development policy of free and special economic zones in Mongolia.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Gankhuu Khassuur emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing the opportunities provided by the Eurasian Economic Union to deepen bilateral cooperation and reduce non-tariff barriers in foreign trade for projects implemented within the framework of free and special economic zones.

In this context, he proposed to initiate cooperation in areas such as standardization, accreditation, and laboratory activities to improve mutual recognition and coordination of conformity assessment.
